Birth trauma (and also trauma experienced due to a difficult pregnancy or postnatal experience) can present itself as all sorts of different symptoms.
You might avoid thinking about what happened, but experience scary flashbacks.
You may have trouble concentrating, but your mind might focus on negative or catastrophic thoughts.
Maybe you have trouble sleeping at night or suffer from nightmares.
Perhaps you experience a feeling of always being on high alert or on guard due to your nervous system being stuck in fight or flight mode.
Something that many mums struggle with anyway, is feeling guilty or ashamed about what happened.
Of course you shouldn’t feel guilty or ashamed, and none of it was your fault. Sometimes it’s easier said than done, and we can’t just change the way we feel.
